Information & Inspiration
Are you ready to leave your mid-life crisis in the dust, and embrace a mid-life that's priceless? Is it time for you to make a mid-course correction? Have you perhaps reached an emotional or financial tipping point in your life?
When a spacecraft gets just a little bit off course and it keeps going without a change in its trajectory, that small variance can become quite significant, even perilous, over time. What needs to happen is that the current location must be determined. Then its course vector (which includes both direction and speed) is calculated and compared with where it ought to be (but isn't). A new vector is computed that will enable it to be put back on its correct and intended course.
Like a spacecraft, we as individuals can experience inertia. Like a craft traveling through space, we will just keep going along the same path we've been on, unless something intervenes to change our trajectory. With spacecraft it takes a re-calculation. With us it can be re-assessing where we are, and determining anew where it is we'd like to go.
In my former career, I was on a path that seemed stellar for many years. Then it began to be less challenging and fulfilling for me. But I kept going, until over time I felt greater and greater discontent. I needed to determine where I was and what was no longer working; and then change my direction, in order to get back on a path that would enable me to reach my intended goals and aspirations.
The significant change in course came with the realization that I no longer wanted to be "the boss" and I certainly didn't want to work for someone else, either. Even though I had had the proverbial "corner office," I was still within the confines of a structured environment. Even though I had a great deal of autonomy, I was still bound by all the policies and procedures put in place by an organization with a large staff. Even though I had a great staff and a wonderfully supportive Board of Directors, I still had to "obtain permission" to go to the dentist. Or take a vacation. At this point in my life I'm too old to subject myself to that kind of stuff. Still, I need to do something, and I continue to have a lot to offer. I want to share my skills and insights, and support those who share my passion for helping others attain their dreams.
Part of my most rewarding previous experience included being on staff of the Marin Community Foundation (the third largest community foundation in the world). Consequently, now that my spirit is soaring as an entrepreneur and mid-life Internet marketer of a top-tier product line that empowers people to eliminate their personal debt and build significant assets (by understanding and leveraging what is happening in today's economy), I am drawn to the Kauffman Foundation. Often referred to as the world's largest foundation dedicated to entrepreneurship, the Kauffman Foundation's Vision is, "A society of economically independent individuals who are engaged citizens, contributing to the improvement of their communities."
According to research conducted by the Kauffman Foundation, it is those of my generation who are now in a key position to aide in the restoration of our broken economy. A study by the Foundation, conducted in 2009 entitled, "The Coming Entrepreneurship Boom," found some interesting facts and trends. While most economists would agree that it will be though the strength and initiative of entrepreneurs that our troubled economy has its best hope of regaining vigor, the demographic most likely to facilitate that might be a surprise to some. The study looked at several factors and emerging trends and reported the following. "Contrary to popularly held assumptions, it turns out that over the past decade or so, the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to the 55-64 age group." And there seems to be every likelihood (given our current economic conditions) that this trend will continue.
As one who is snuggly within that demographic, and a happily successful, mid-life Internet marketer, I am not surprised. I feel as if every experience I've ever had has prepared me for this - the ride of my life. I like to think of it as being aboard the "Entrepreneurship Enterprise." The only thing I can't figure out is why you aren't onboard with me? While I know intellectually that this type of business opportunity isn't for everyone - in my heart I can't understand why not. It is a most exciting, challenging, and rewarding endeavor.
If you are at a cross-roads and are trying to avoid a boomer to bust trajectory, or perhaps you are financially secure, yet you secretly aspire to be a bon vivant, then a successful Internet home-based business just might be for you. If part of your mid-life, mid-course correction means trading in your corner office or the confines of a cubicle, or if you are simply ready for a new and meaningful challenge that can take you to new heights, then you might want to consider becoming an entrepreneur.
Such an undertaking will call upon all that you have within you, and then stretch you beyond that. It is often pointed out that what it takes to succeed in the powerful, all-inclusive business system, of which I am a part, is this: ninety percent mind-set and ten percent skill-set. While I know this to be true with regard to my home-based business, I also believe it is true with respect to whichever entrepreneurial opportunity you might choose to undertake. So, if you don't have that not-to-be-denied stirring in your soul to achieve more and to give back, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit, you'll want to pass.
According to Bill Green, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education at the University of Miami, entrepreneurship is a form of social responsibility. He asserts, "Entrepreneurs renew society by constantly looking for opportunities to make products, institutions and practices better." Given the state of our economy, the looming threat of hyperinflation, continued job losses in the U.S., and a host of other signs and symptoms, we could benefit from your experience and keenly re-awakened enthusiasm to make a contribution. Transform your life and become part of the solution. Become the Captain of your own destiny, set a new course and determine your own trajectory. Who wouldn't want to do this?
